Abstract |
En este texto se presenta un estudio sobre las t’ecnicas y aplicaciones de an’alisis de documentos, y más concretamente abordando la problem’atica del an’alisis de de entidades gr’aficas. El ’area de an’alisis de documentos tiene como objetivo la interpretaci’on de documentos impresos sobre papel por m’etodos computacionales, para obtener una descripci’on con un alto nivel de abstracci’on, que permita su posterior tratamiento y archivo por m’etodos inform’aticos. Este objetivo, junto a los trabajos realizados hasta el momento, le otorgan a esta ’area un amplio ’ambito de aplicaciones para la manipulaci’on y archivo de documentos sobre papel, que puede llegar a significar un salto cualitativo importante (del papel al disco ’optico) en el uso de soportes de informaci’on, debido a las importantes prestaciones de acceso y capacidad de archivo que suponen los medios inform’aticos. Abstract |
En aquest article es presenta una experiència en ABP feta el curs 2004-05 en Gràfics per Computador 2, assignatura optativa de 3er curs d’Enginyeria Informàtica impartida a l’ETSE. En l’article s’explica l’organització docent abans d’ABP, basada en classes magistrals. Després es mostra l’organització en ABP i es quantifica en ECTS l’esforç de l’alumne en ambdues organitzacions. Essent conscient del diferent interès de l’alumnat per l’assignatura, se’ls hi ofereix dos itineraris: el de classes magistrals i d’ABP. Es mostren alguns resultats dels alumnes d’ABP i també les primeres enquestes realitzades als alumnes. S’exposen les conclusions en el primer any de l’experiència, plantejant temes de discussió. S’ha procurat que la proposta no desbordi l’esforç del professorat. Per això s’ofereix el doble itinerari, per a canalitzar per ABP els alumnes més interessats i permetre a la resta que realitzin el curs amb l’organització clàsica de l’assignatura: classes magistrals de teoria, problemes i pràctiques. |

Abstract |
En este trabajo se presentan los resultados de la aplicación de la metodología del aprendizaje cooperativo a la docencia de dos asignaturas de programación en ingeniería informática. ‘Algoritmos y programación’ y ‘Lenguajes de programación’ son dos asignaturas complementarias que se organizan entorno a un proyecto común que engloba los contenidos de ambas asignaturas. En la docencia de una parte muy importante de estas asignaturas, la metodología del aprendizaje cooperativo se ha adaptado a sus características específicas. Como muestra de esta adaptación presentamos dos ejemplos de las actividades desarrolladas dentro de la docencia de estas asignaturas. Después de tres años de aplicación, el análisis a nivel cualitativo y cuantitativo de los resultados muestra que éstos son muy satisfactorios y que la aplicación del método cooperativo ha mejorado de forma considerable el rendimiento de los alumnos en ambas asignaturas. |

Abstract |
Presentamos una experiencia en Aprendizaje Basado en Proyectos (ABP) realizada los últimos cuatro años en Gráficos por Computador 2, asignatura de Ingeniería Informática, de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería (ETSE) de la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB). Utilizamos un entorno Moodle adaptado por nosotros llamado Caronte para poder gestionar la documentación generada en ABP. Primero se presenta la asignatura, basada en dos itinerarios para cursarla: ABP y TPPE (Teoría, Problemas, Prácticas, Examen). El alumno debe escoger uno de ellos. Ambos itinerarios generan una cantidad importante de documentación (entregas de trabajos y prácticas, correcciones, ejercicios, etc.) a gestionar. En la comunicación presentamos los espacios electrónicos Moodle de ambos itinerarios. Finalmente, mostramos los resultados de encuestas realizadas a los alumnos para finalmente exponer las conclusiones de la experiencia en ABP y el uso de Moodle, así como plantear mejoras y temas de discusión. |

Abstract |
Action recognition is a very challenging and important problem in computer vision. Researchers working on this field aspire to provide computers with the abil ity to visually perceive human actions – that is, to observe, interpret, and under stand human-related events that occur in the physical environment merely from visual data. The applications of this technology are numerous: human-machine interaction, e-health, monitoring/surveillance, and content-based video retrieval, among others. Hand-crafted methods dominated the field until the apparition of the first successful deep learning-based action recognition works. Although ear lier deep-based methods underperformed with respect to hand-crafted approaches, these slowly but steadily improved to become state-of-the-art, eventually achieving better results than hand-crafted ones. Still, hand-crafted approaches can be advan tageous in certain scenarios, specially when not enough data is available to train very large deep models or simply to be combined with deep-based methods to fur ther boost the performance. Hence, showing how hand-crafted features can provide extra knowledge the deep networks are notable to easily learn about human actions.
This Thesis concurs in time with this change of paradigm and, hence, reflects it into two distinguished parts. In the first part, we focus on improving current suc cessful hand-crafted approaches for action recognition and we do so from three dif ferent perspectives. Using the dense trajectories framework as a backbone: first, we explore the use of multi-modal and multi-view input
data to enrich the trajectory de scriptors. Second, we focus on the classification part of action recognition pipelines and propose an ensemble learning approach, where each classifier leams from a different set of local spatiotemporal features to then combine their outputs following an strategy based on the Dempster-Shaffer Theory. And third, we propose a novel hand-crafted feature extraction method that constructs a rnid-level feature descrip tion to better modellong-term spatiotemporal dynarnics within action videos. Moving to the second part of the Thesis, we start with a comprehensive study of the current deep-learning based action recognition methods. We review both fun damental and cutting edge methodologies reported during the last few years and introduce a taxonomy of deep-leaming methods dedicated to action recognition. In particular, we analyze and discuss how these handle
the temporal dimension of data. Last but not least, we propose a residual recurrent network for action recogni tion that naturally integrates all our previous findings in a powerful and prornising framework. |
