Title Introducing the Separability Matrix for Error Correcting Output Codes Coding Type Conference Article
Year 2011 Publication 10th International conference on Multiple Classifier Systems Abbreviated Journal
  Volume 6713 Issue Pages 227-236
  Keywords
Abstract Error Correcting Output Codes (ECOC) have demonstrate to be a powerful tool for treating multi-class problems. Nevertheless, predefined ECOC designs may not benefit from Error-correcting principles for particular multi-class data. In this paper, we introduce the Separability matrix as a tool to study and enhance designs for ECOC coding. In addition, a novel problem-dependent coding design based on the Separability matrix is tested over a wide set of challenging multi-class problems, obtaining very satisfactory results.

Title Image vignetting reduction via a maximization of fuzzy entropy Type Conference Article
Year 2017 Publication IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems Abbreviated Journal
  Volume Issue Pages
  Keywords
Abstract In many computer vision applications, vignetting is an undesirable effect which must be removed in a pre-processing step. Recently, an algorithm for image vignetting correction has been presented by means of a minimization of log-intensity entropy. This method relies on an increase of the entropy of the image when it is affected with vignetting. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm to reduce image vignetting via a maximization of the fuzzy entropy of the image. Fuzzy entropy quantifies the fuzziness degree of a fuzzy set and its value is also modified by the presence of vignetting. The experimental results show that this novel algorithm outperforms in most cases the algorithm based on the minimization of log-intensity entropy both from the qualitative and the quantitative point of view.

Title Approximate Convex Hulls Family for One-Class Cassification Type Conference Article
Year 2011 Publication 10th International Workshop on Multiple Classifier Systems Abbreviated Journal
  Volume 6713 Issue Pages 106-115
  Keywords
Abstract In this work, a new method for one-class classification based on the Convex Hull geometric structure is proposed. The new method creates a family of convex hulls able to fit the geometrical shape of the training points. The increased computational cost due to the creation of the convex hull in multiple dimensions is circumvented using random projections. This provides an approximation of the original structure with multiple bi-dimensional views. In the projection planes, a mechanism for noisy points rejection has also been elaborated and evaluated. Results show that the approach performs considerably well with respect to the state the art in one-class classification.

Title 3DRRDB: Super Resolution of Multiple Remote Sensing Images using 3D Residual in Residual Dense Blocks Type Conference Article
Year 2022 Publication CVPR 2022 Workshop on IEEE Perception Beyond the Visible Spectrum workshop series (PBVS, 18th Edition) Abbreviated Journal
  Volume Issue Pages
Keywords Training; Solid modeling; Three-dimensional displays; PSNR; Convolution; Superresolution; Pattern recognition
Abstract The rapid advancement of Deep Convolutional Neural Networks helped in solving many remote sensing problems, especially the problems of super-resolution. However, most state-of-the-art methods focus more on Single Image Super-Resolution neglecting Multi-Image Super-Resolution. In this work, a new proposed 3D Residual in Residual Dense Blocks model (3DRRDB) focuses on remote sensing Multi-Image Super-Resolution for two different single spectral bands. The proposed 3DRRDB model explores the idea of 3D convolution layers in deeply connected Dense Blocks and the effect of local and global residual connections with residual scaling in Multi-Image Super-Resolution. The model tested on the Proba-V challenge dataset shows a significant improvement above the current state-of-the-art models scoring a Corrected Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (cPSNR) of 48.79 dB and 50.83 dB for Near Infrared (NIR) and RED Bands respectively. Moreover, the proposed 3DRRDB model scores a Corrected Structural Similarity Index Measure (cSSIM) of 0.9865 and 0.9909 for NIR and RED bands respectively.
